The new teaser for Netflix’s take of Wednesday Addams proves that she is legit troublemaker
Wednesday Addams, the daughter of Morticia and Gomez, may be known for her cynicism, but the first trailer for Netflix’s upcoming comedy from filmmaker Tim Burton serves as a handy (and promising) reminder that the gloomy adolescent has always been something of a social butterfly. Not everyone Wednesday Addams chooses to hang out with will appreciate her sense of humour, but that does not mean she is not trying to make a genuine connection with them.
After being expelled from yet another “normal” school for scaring her classmates, Wednesday (Jenna Ortega) is introduced in the first Wednesday trailer, to the dismay of neither her mother (Catherine Zeta-Jones) nor her father (Luis Guzman). Wednesday’s parents recognise that their daughter is just being herself and is trying to protect her younger brother Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez), but they also know that Wednesday needs a school that can accommodate her particular sensitivities if she is ever going to get a good education.
Nevermore Academy, a strange institution managed by Larissa Weems (Gwendoline Christie), seems like a better fit for Wednesday based on the trailer. There, students learn about violent duels and fantastical monsters. When Wednesday premieres on Netflix this fall, it will be easy to see if the Nevermore student body is prepared for the insanity brought by its newest pupil.
