The First ‘Atlanta’ Season 3 Teaser Trailer is Here and its’s Scary
Brian Tyree Henry’s Paper Boi is prominently featured in the cryptic trailer.
Donald Glover gave us a Halloween treat last night when he tweeted a cryptic teaser for Atlanta’s highly anticipated third season. The 58-second long trailer was posted on the website “Gilga.com,” which was only accessible from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m. local time, in a seasonally appropriate, spooky twist.
The teaser is a creepy mash-up of landscape and interior shots from various parts of Atlanta, ranging from dark streets to images of derelict mansions. The score is Sun Ra’s “It’s After the End of the World,” with the vocalist’s eerily ethereal chanting amplifying the creep factor.
The trailer’s final image is perhaps the most striking, a slow zoom into Brian Tyree Henry’s Paper Boi, who is adorned with gold chains and a shirt that reads “FAKE” in bold yellow typeface. Is it time for him to rise? It concludes with a tease of a 2022 release, which fans will undoubtedly hope comes sooner rather than later.
Overall, Brian Tyree Henry’s year is shaping up to be a great one. After moving into blockbuster territory with Godzilla vs. Kong and Eternals, it appears that Paper Boi will take centre stage in the new season. And no one is likely to complain, given his stellar performance on the show thus far, which earned him an Emmy nomination in 2018.
Atlanta premiered on FX in 2016 and follows Earnest “Earn” Marks, a college dropout played by Glover, who also created the show. It also stars Lakeith Stanfield and Zazie Beats, and has had a slew of guest stars since the first season. Season four is already in the works. If you don’t want to wait until the wee hours of the morning to watch the teaser, you can do so here.
