Taylor Swift’s New Album Is Coming Out in October
Let us be honest: the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards, with the exception of the Bad Bunny kiss that dominated the headlines, were… quite dull. There were not many outrageous outfits or dramatic red carpet moments for us to vicariously enjoy from the comfort of our sofas, but the announcement that Taylor Swift would be releasing a new album was like manna from pop music paradise.
Swift announced her new album, Midnights, and its October 21 release while accepting the award for video of the year on Sunday. She later described the album as “the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life.” Ladies who spend all night reading obscure articles on Wikipedia: now is our moment to shine.

Swift went on to write, “We lie awake in love and fear, in turmoil and tears,” in photographs that were widely shared online. “We stare at walls and drink until they speak back. We twist in our self-made cages and pray that we aren’t—right this minute—about to make some fateful life-altering mistake. This is a collection of music written in the middle of the night, a journey through terrors and sweet dreams. The floors we pace and the demons we face. For all of us who have tossed and turned and decided to keep the lanterns lit and go searching—hoping that just maybe when the clock strikes twelve … we’ll meet ourselves.” Uh…sure! I’m constantly staring at walls and drinking until they speak back! I love to twist in my self-made cage!

The album cover, which features a heavily eyelined Taylor Swift gazing pensively into a lighter flame, is a departure from her usual Folklore-Esque artwork and begs several questions regarding the album’s subject matter.
