Sydney Sweeney angry on people who tag her parents on her nude screenshots
Sydney Sweeney lashed out at online trolls who had screenshotted her nude Euphoria moments and tagged her loved ones in the posts.
“It got to the point where they were tagging my family. My cousins don’t need that. It’s completely disgusting and unfair,” She said as much in an interview
Sweeney, who plays high school student Cassie Howard on the HBO show, has stated that the sexual objectification of women shown in the actions of those who gave her family members her naked scenes is reflected in the content of the show itself.
“You have a character that goes through the scrutiny of being a sexualized person at school and then an audience that does the same,” she told the magazine.
But Sweeney, 25, said she won’t let the harassment she faced online deter her from performing naked scenes in the future.
“I think it’s ridiculous. I’m an artist, I play characters. It makes me want to play characters that piss people off more,”
The White Lotus star also talked about how she’s spent her entire life trying to prove that she’s more than the sum of her physical attributes.
“I had boobs before other girls and I felt ostracised for it,” Sweeney said. “I was embarrassed and I never wanted to change in the locker room. I think that I put on this weird persona other people had of me because of my body. So I did play every sport and I studied really hard and I did everything that people wouldn’t think I would do, to show them that my body doesn’t define who I am.”
Sweeney said earlier this year that she only strips down to nothing when it’s absolutely required for the plot. She went so far as to request that filmmaker Sam Levinson delete what she saw as unnecessary topless scenes from Euphoria.
“There are moments where [my character] Cassie was supposed to be shirtless and I would tell Sam, ‘I don’t really think that’s necessary here,’” she told in January. “He was like, ‘OK, we don’t need it.’
Sweeney added that she has never been made to perform in a compromising naked scene.
“I’ve never felt like Sam has pushed it on me or was trying to get a nude scene into an HBO show,” she added, “When I didn’t want to do it, he didn’t make me.”
But that isn’t always the case with the other endeavours she’s participated in.
“I’ve had experiences where I want to go home and scrub myself completely raw because I feel disgusting,” she stated. “I didn’t feel comfortable with my castmate or the crew, and I just didn’t feel like my character would be doing it.”
She is both pleased with her body and concerned that her acting abilities would be overlooked if she is known mostly for her naked performances.
“I’m very proud of my work in Euphoria. I thought it was a great performance. But no one talks about it because I got naked,” she stated.
“I do The White Lotus and all of a sudden critics are paying attention. People are loving me. They’re going, ‘Oh my God, what’s she doing next?’ I was like, ‘Did you not see that in Euphoria? Did you not see that in The Handmaid’s Tale?
