Sydney Sweeney addresses the backlash against her Blue Lives Matter and MAGA photo
Sydney Sweeney has addressed the widespread outcry over her mom’s “hoedown” birthday celebration.
The Euphoria star posted a slideshow of photos from her mother Lisa’s Western-themed 60th birthday party on Instagram over the weekend.
There is “No better way to celebrate my momma than a surprise hoedown,” than a surprise hoedown, she captioned the photo.
However, after fans observed a guest wearing a T-shirt reading “Blue Lives Matter” Sydney quickly became a topic of conversation online. The slogan alludes to a countermovement in the United States that demands individuals found guilty of murdering police officers be punished under anti-bias laws.
Others sported red caps reading “Make Sixty Great Again” at the event. This appears to be a reference to “Make America Great Again” the slogan used by former US President Donald Trump throughout his 2016 campaign.
Sydney, in reaction to the criticism, defended the party on Twitter, calling it a “innocent”
“You guys this is wild. An innocent celebration for my mom’s milestone 60th birthday has turned into an absurd political statement, which was not the intention,” This, the young man of 24 years old insisted.
“Please stop making assumptions. Much love to everyone and Happy Birthday Mom!”
