Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin will be available on Steam in April
Square Enix has announced a “new, affordable price” for Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin ahead of its Steam release next month. The Team Ninja action game is now “affordable,” not “more cheap,” which suggests that the previous pricing was prohibitive.
As of today, you can purchase Stranger of Paradise on the Epic Games Store for £35/$40, a reduction from the previous price of £50/$60. Don’t bother letting them know that many of their other games are still $70 each.
The April 6 release date and price drop were tweeted about by Square Enix:
The Steam product listing page referenced in the tweet’s official site is currently under construction. The link will send you there as soon as it’s ready, but until then, it’ll take you to Steam’s main page.
Compared to other Final Fantasy titles, Stranger in Paradise is distinctly different in tone and style. It’s an action game where you play as a tough young warrior named Jack and try to hack and slash your way to victory over the forces of Chaos. Our own rough and tumble fighting boy Ed gave it a go upon release and enjoyed the precise action that is typical of Team Ninja games, but he found the game to be let down by its lacklustre environments, tedious treasure grind, and one-dimensional cast.
According to Square Enix’s most recent financial report, some of their recent titles failed to meet expectations. Although no games were listed and Square Enix has published a lot of games in the previous year, a price drop should encourage more people to test out Jack’s unquenchable drive to defeat Chaos.
