Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Release Date Postponed Again
Miles Morales’ comeback will be delayed by a few days. When Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was originally scheduled to be published on October 7, Sony revealed that it will instead be released on June 2, 2023, eight months later than originally planned. That’s a bummer. However, we now know when the second instalment will arrive. The sequel to Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be aired on March 29, 2024.
Madame Web, directed by Dakota Johnson, has been assigned a new release date of July 7, 2023, which means it will still be showing in cinemas at the same time as Spider-Verse.
Chris Miller, the writer and producer of Spider-Verse, explained the delay by tweeting, “More time to make it great.”
If you’re still reeling from the news, Sony has also issued some very rudimentary official synopses to help you out a little bit. A villain more powerful than anything they’ve ever encountered will be faced off against by Gwen Stacy and a team of Spider-People in the next chapter of the Oscar-winning Spider-Verse saga, which will see Miles Morales, Gwen Stacy, and a new group of Spider-People travel across the Multiverse to take on a new foe. All confirmed are director Joaquim Dos Santos, writer Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, and three of the actors, including Oscar Isaac and Hailee Steinfeld. Dos Santos, Powers, and Thompson also serve as producers on the picture.
Madame Web has even less information, but it’s interesting: “Madame Web is a clairvoyant whose psychic skills allow her to see into the spider world itself. “This is the tale of how she came to be,” she says. Directors S.J. Clarkson and Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, as well as actors Johnson and Sydney Sweeney, have all been confirmed.
To add salt to the wound, the announcement comes just days after it was announced that Spider-Verse: Across the Spider-Verse will open in cinemas on April 1, 2022. To be fair, this isn’t because of any issues, but rather because the producers are giving themselves plenty of time so that their much awaited movie will be worth the wait. It’s our belief.
