“Spencer’s” first full trailer has come.
Following the film’s festival premiere, film company Neon released a complete trailer for the film, which will follow the late Princess Diana during a Christmas visit with the royal family, during which her marriage eventually falls apart.
The video begins with cars approaching Queen Elizabeth II’s Sandringham Estate in England, and two people discussing whether “she” has arrived yet. Diana, played by Kristen Stewart, is shown driving a convertible automobile.
“Your Royal Highness, family are all gathered in the drawing room,” says a man greeting the princess as she says hello to her sons upon arriving at the estate. “They are waiting.”
An emotional Diana can then be seen washing her hands in the bathroom.
“Three days,” she whispers to herself. “That’s it.”
“They’re getting very serious about you,” a woman warns Diana, whose tension with her fellow royals is at an all-time high during this period of her life. “So stand still and smile a lot.”
“Mommy, what’s happened to make you so sad?” one of her young sons asks.
She responds: “Here, in this house, there is no future. The past and the present are the same thing.”
Diana may be seen spending time with her family in various locations throughout the trailer, such as at a luxurious dining table or sitting for a family portrait.
She also discusses putting on a brave face for the public with her husband, Prince Charles, played by Jack Farthing.
“Diana, for the good of the country,” he pleads.
“For the country?” she shoots back before later admitting that “there’s no hope” for her when it comes to the royals.
“Spencer,” directed by Pablo Larrain (director of “Jackie”), deals with Diana’s choice to divorce Prince Charles (portrayal Jack Farthing). The film isn’t totally based on history; rather, it’s a speculative account of what may have occurred over that fatal holiday season in 1991.
A new footage from the film “Spencer” depicts a grim reality for Diana, Princess of Wales: the flash and glam of life at the Queen’s Sandringham Estate is not without scrutiny. “Three days, that’s it,” Diana promises herself as she prepares for the Christmas celebrations.
