SpaceX Will Continue Its Support for Ukraine’s Starlink Internet Service
After previously stating that his rocket company, SpaceX, would no longer be able to fund its Starlink Internet service in Ukraine, Elon Musk has now stated that the company will continue to do so. Musk wrote that “the hell with it…” Even though Starlink is still losing money and other companies are getting billions of taxpayer dollars, we’ll just keep funding Ukraine’s government for free”.
According to the BBC, maintaining online connectivity has been absolutely necessary for Ukraine’s armed forces as well as the general population. Ukraine claims that it assisted in the reactivation of critical infrastructure following Russian assaults. This week, more than 100 Russian missiles targeted a variety of facilities across the country, including energy plants. The Starlink communication network is made up of thousands of satellites in low-Earth orbit and terminals on the ground.
According to reports in the local media in the United States, Elon Musk made his request to the Pentagon to fund the Starlink initiative one month ago. And on Friday, he tweeted the following: “SpaceX is not looking to reclaim any past expenses, but the company also cannot fund the existing system indefinitely.” This action was met with widespread condemnation. Musk had said earlier that Ukraine might give land to Russia, which upset Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine.
