Sony PlayStation VR2 headset is expected to be arriving in early 2023
The release date of early 2023 has been revealed for the next PlayStation VR2 headset by Sony. Sony has announced on social media that the highly anticipated PlayStation VR 2 will be released in early 2023. Sony has the potential to significantly advance virtual reality gaming in early 2023 with the strength of its PlayStation 5 platform and the requirements for its PSVR2 headgear. A late-2022 release in time for holiday shopping windows has become increasingly implausible as the summer months have progressed, but the PSvR 2 arrival would still allow Sony to put its latest PlayStation VR2 headset into the world anytime this financial year. A few experts in the field have speculated on when the PlayStation VR2 might be released, with one predicting in April that it would debut the following year.
On Monday, official Sony social media platforms verified rumors and analyst claims that the PlayStation VR2 release date would be delayed until 2022. Sony has been slowly releasing information about PlayStation VR2 over the past year or two. Thanks to posts on their Japanese Twitter and Instagram accounts, we now know that it will come out next year. We have not yet settled on a release date for PlayStation VR2, but if Sony’s newest updates are to be believed, it will be available to players much sooner than the summer of 2023. Sony’s next headset, the PlayStation VR2, is expected to enter mass production by the end of the year and launch somewhere during the first quarter of next year, between January and March, according to industry analysts like Ming-Chi Kuo (via VGC).
Still, the Sony PlayStation VR2 headgear has a lot of potential, as Sony claims: Foveated rendering, which makes some sections of an image appear sharper than others in order to simplify things for a computer, will be used in conjunction with display scaling to 4K and running at either 90 or 120Hz, a field-of-view of 110 degrees, and so on (or, in this case, a PlayStation 5). Sony confirmed the debut date on Instagram today, stating that it would be somewhere in early 2023, but provided no other details. As we move closer to the launch in the early part of next year, more details about the VR are expected to become available.
