Sony is releasing a pro PS5 controller
A professional-grade PS5 controller is being released by Sony at long last. Sony’s “first-ever high-performance, ultra-customizable” gamepad, the DualSense Edge Wireless controller, was announced during Gamescom 2022’s Opening Night Live showcase, with further details provided via a PlayStation Blog post(opens in a new tab) afterward. You can change the sensitivity of the analog sticks and the trigger’s distance of travel, as well as remap or disable certain button inputs. The best first-person shooters benefit greatly from a responsive controller, which should be achieved by using the aforementioned settings. Once you’ve found the best way for you to play, save your favorite controls in a “custom controller profile.”
To quickly switch between profiles, press the FN button, which also controls the volume of in-game conversations. Sony claims that this won’t have any effect on your gameplay at all. The Edge retains many of the pioneering DualSense capabilities, such as an internal microphone and haptic feedback, and adds the flexibility to physically personalize the device. With the DualSense Edge, you can customize your button input with a variety of different stick caps (normal, high dome, and low dome) and back buttons (half dome, and lever).
The blog post also mentions that additional interchangeable stick modules will be sold separately. We’ve been hoping for some time that Sony would create a professional PlayStation controller to compete with the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 gamepad, and it appears that our hopes have been realized. Sony has not yet announced a release date or price for the DualSense Edge, but we can only hope that it won’t be too much longer before we can get our hands on PlayStation’s professional controller.
