Sony has created the PlayStation Studios Mobile Division
The PlayStation Studios Mobile Division is a separate entity from Sony’s console game production, which is part of the company’s foray into the mobile gaming market. This was done as part of Sony’s expansion into mobile gaming. A news release states that the newly formed group would use both new PlayStation intellectual properties (IPs) as well as current IPs while developing mobile games for PlayStation Studios. Savage Game Studios will become part of PlayStation Studios Mobile, a new branch of PlayStation Studios that focuses on mobile games and is separate from the company’s console game development teams.
While the PlayStation Studios Mobile Division will operate separately, PlayStation’s newly founded mobile division will make use of existing titles and build ports for new original games. In addition, the PlayStation Studios Mobile Division will work on its own. Therefore, mobile developer Savage Game Studios will be a part of PlayStation Studios’ new Mobile Division. This division will function independently of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s other development projects and will create new experiences that are based on PlayStation franchises. Savage Game Studios was founded as a mobile development studio.
Since the mobile-focused studio is already hard at work on a new AAA live-service action mobile title that has not yet been announced, it would appear that PlayStation does not simply want to have a few well-established titles in its catalog for its mobile games. Savage Game Studios might be the first of numerous mobile-focused acquisitions that platform owner Sony makes as it wants to actively grow its new subsidiary. Sony has stated that the day-to-day operations of Savage Game Studios, the mobile developer, will continue to be directed by the leadership of the company. As a result, there will be no changes to the structure of the company, despite the fact that the team will become a part of PlayStation Studios Mobile. Savage Game Studios is a mobile development studio with locations in Finland and Germany. They are making triple-A games that can be played on mobile devices, and PlayStation just announced that they want to buy the company.
Sony has disclosed that they will be adding Haven Studios will join Sony’s ranks in the early part of 2022, and Sony recently closed a $3.6 billion deal to buy Bungie. Despite the acquisition, Bungie will continue to operate as a developer and publisher across multiple platforms under the PlayStation banner. This is one of many mergers and acquisitions that have taken place in the video game industry over the past year.
PlayStation Productions will serve as the overarching organization for the first-party game development studios owned by the multinational conglomerate Sony Group Corporations. These studios include Naughty Dog, Insomniac, Santa Monica Studio, Media Molecule, and Guerrilla Games, among others. PlayStation Productions will also be used to trademark games that were developed by studios that Sony acquired through a work-for-hire arrangement.
In May of 2019, PlayStation announced the opening of PlayStation Productions, a production firm that will utilize the extensive video gaming catalog of the corporation to create content for film and television. A television adaptation of God of War has been in active development at Amazon Prime Video, and PlayStation has announced that a television show based on Horizon is currently in the early stages of development at Netflix. They will also play a big part in the future, as PlayStation has told us that Netflix is working on a TV show based on Horizon.
