Shakira’s latest single had over 82 million YouTube views in one day
Official World Records has confirmed that Colombian pop singer Shakira’s latest single video had over 82 million views on YouTube in a single day, making it the most-viewed new Latin single in the history of the platform. “Out of Your League,” a four-minute pop song co-written by Shakira and Argentine producer and DJ Bizarrap, marks their professional debut together. An estimated 126 million people had seen it by Monday afternoon.
Adding Shakira to the ranks of Latin singers who have broken records on YouTube includes artists such as J Balvin, Luis Fonsi, and Daddy Yankee. Shakira, 45, sings a song called the “diss track” in which she insults her ex-boyfriend, the 35-year-old Barcelona star Gerard Piqué, and his rumored new girlfriend, 23. Piqué and Shakira, parents of two, ended their relationship a year ago. She claims in the song that she is “worth two 22-year-olds,” and that Piqué would rather have her than a Ferrari, a Renault Twingo, or a Rolex.
She says, “I was out of your league, which is why you’re with someone just like you,” and also brings up her legal battle with the Spanish government, which holds her responsible for failing to pay $15.6 million ($14.5 million) in taxable income.
“You left me with my mother-in-law as a neighbor, with the press at my door and a debt to the taxman,” another line notes.
According to Spanish authorities, Shakira must pay Spanish tax on her worldwide profits for the years 2012 through 2014 because she and her family lived in Barcelona throughout that time. The Spanish government is now asking for a sentence of eight years in prison and a fine of more than €23 million should she be found guilty. Meanwhile, the artist claims she owes nothing to the Spanish central bank and accuses them of launching a “salacious press campaign” against her. The Latin pop singer claimed that she had solid proof to support her claims; however, she has yet to set her evidence to music.

A Legendary Performer Who Sets New Benchmarks
The Colombian singer has set several Guinness World Records, including being the first person to receive 100 million Facebook likes in July 2014 and the most liked female individual on the site in April 2021.
“I am honored and humbled about reaching this milestone because it’s one that’s purely about connecting with my fans from all parts of the globe,” Shakira said in 2014, adding, “Social media and specifically Facebook has helped myself and other artists bridge the gap between the stage and the audience. We’ve been able to create a conversation, where both artists and fans can share with one another their thoughts, achievements, the most important moments of their lives in photographs and videos, and have a real, ongoing dialogue.”
The “Hips Don’t Lie” singer has won more Billboard Latin Music Awards than any other female artist, and her album was the fastest-selling Spanish-language album ever. Shakira’s “Out of Your League” video broke records, but she’s probably hoping for a quick dismissal in her tax fraud lawsuit rather than risking a criminal past that might place her in jail until she’s far into her 50s.
