Shakira has refused to perform at World Cup opening ceremony in Qatar
As the opening ceremony of the biggest athletic event on the planet, the Qatar World Cup, takes place on November 20, the entire world will pause and pay attention.
The top musicians in the world perform at the show, and their songs often become staples of the World Cup era. Take Shakira’s 2010 hit “Waka Waka,” which many believe to be based on a fable.
However, some singers have declined invitations to perform at the opening ceremony because of the backlash against the World Cup in Qatar.
For example, both Dua Lipa and Rod Stewart have declined the offer.
The Colombian singer Shakira has been dealing with her own troubles offstage, and her attendance at the World Cup in Qatar was widely panned online.
Shakira reportedly changed her mind about performing at the ceremony a few days before the start of the World Cup, as reported on ‘El programa de Ana Rosa.
Adriana Dorronsoro stated on the show, “It’s been confirmed to me that Shakira will not perform at the opening ceremony, but they won’t say if she will have another role throughout the World Cup,”
Another Telecinco show contributor, Sandra Aladro, claimed to have communicated with the performer’s team.
“They have confirmed that she won’t be performing.” Says Aladro.
“She was going to be a guest performer, now she will have to send a statement to explain everything.”
