Sex Education’s most important character Ncuti Gatwa will return for season 4
Fans of the popular Netflix series Sex Education can rejoice because Ncuti Gatwa will return to the character of Eric Effiong in the upcoming fourth season. According to Variety(opens in a new tab), some clever scheduling has made it possible for Gatwa, who was recently named the new Doctor Who, to return to the sex-filled halls of Moordale for Sex Education season 4, which has just started filming. The announcement comes after a troubling string of cast members have left the Netflix series, including Patricia Allison (Ola), Rakhee Thakrar (Miss Sands), Simone Ashley (Olivia), Tanya Reynolds (Lily), and Rakhee Thakrar (Miss Sands), who have all indicated they won’t be returning in the upcoming season.
However, Gatwa’s Eric will be back for more high school mischief, which should cheer up Sex Education viewers concerned that the program may have lost its luster. Asa Butterfield’s character, Otis’ best friend, and Connor Swindells’ Adam’s love interest, Eric, has grown to be probably the show’s most significant character, frequently driving the plot ahead and giving emotion and laughter in equal measure.
The fourth season of Sex Education’s storyline also appears to be heavily dependent on Eric. At the conclusion of the third season of the show, he and Adam made the decision to part ways. The former’s kissing of another guy in Nigeria served as the final straw for a partnership that had always appeared bizarrely balanced, given Adam’s constant quest to understand his own sexuality. But in the later episodes of season 3, we also saw Adam becoming closer to Eric’s ex, Rahim, hinting at a potential relationship between the two that formerly seemed unattainable. Both plot lines naturally revolve around Eric, so it’s difficult to imagine how Sex Education’s creators would have handled them if Gatwa hadn’t been allowed to appear in fresh episodes.
The release date for Sex Education season 4 on Netflix has not yet been announced, but we do know that filming began on July 4, 2022, due to a recent production listing(opens in new tab). As a result, we do not anticipate the fourth season of the program to debut anytime soon. Given that the first and second seasons of Sex Education were both released in January, our best bet for when the third season will air is the first half of 2023.
