Sevilla Erik Lamela scores a stunning second-half equalizer in a 1-1 draw away to Mallorca
With a remarkable second-half equalizer in a 1-1 draws away to Mallorca on Wednesday, Erik Lamela came off the bench to earn Sevilla a point and top spot in LaLiga.
Mallorca squandered a golden opportunity to double their advantage early in the second half when Angel Rodriguez smashed a close-range attempt against the post.
However, they continued to dominate, and Argentine striker Lamela, who came on in place of Suso in the 53rd minute, leveled the score in the 73rd minute with a cut-in from the right and an unstoppable shot into the top corner.
Late on, Mallorca’s Jaume Costa was sent off for tackling Lamela, and the visitors believed they had stolen a win when Lucas Ocampos tapped in from close range, but the goal was ruled out for a handball in the build-up following a lengthy VAR review, infuriating the visitors.
Sevilla climbed to the top of the table with 21 points after ten games, one point clear of Real Sociedad on goal difference, however, Real Madrid could overtake them later if they avoid defeat against Osasuna.
Mallorca, who are in 12th place with 13 points after losing twice in stoppage time in a 2-2 draw against Valencia on Saturday, are relieved to have earned a point.
