Selena Gomez Felt ‘Ashamed’ After This Album Cover
Bridget Everett, Quinta Brunson, Amy Schumer, Molly Shannon, and Tracee Ellis Ross participated in a roundtable discussion with The Hollywood Reporter. In their discussion, Schumer praised Gomez for being an innovator in the music business.
The I Feel Pretty star said, “I know they put you through a system and make you feel like this is how you have to do it,” The decision to go in a new path requires a lot of fortitude, as the saying goes.
“It’s really unfair,” Gomez said in response. And then she started talking about how she got her album cover shot.
“I actually did an album cover, and I was really ashamed after I did it. I had to work through those feelings because I realized it was attached to something deeper that was going on,” she elaborated “It was a choice that I wasn’t necessarily happy that I made, but I think that I’ve done my best. At least I try to be myself.”
Even while Gomez did not say which album cover specifically evoked those emotions, it is safe to assume she was talking about Revival’s.
The cover model is tastefully nuded and rendered in black and white. For clarification, please refer to the section below:
In the same year, Gomez told Entertainment Weekly, “it’s okay to let down my walls with my music, to feel sexy and good.” Another of her favourite albums is Stripped by Christina Aguilera, which contains a topless shot of the “Dirrty” singer on the album’s cover.
However, in an interview with Allure published in 2020, Gomez discussed the pressure she felt to act and look a specific way throughout the Revival period.
I just acted in ways that were not consistent with who I am,” she explained. “On my album Revival, I felt the need to appear more mature. In order to satisfy an innate desire to expose flesh, I found that… In all honesty, I do not think I was…”
During her interview she touched on her journey of self-discovery.
“I’m not an overly sexual person,” Gomez mentioned. “Sometimes I like to feel sexy, but it doesn’t mean it’s for somebody else. It can be for me.”
