Season 2 of “Squid Game” has been confirmed by the show’s creator
“There’s been so much pressure, so much demand and so much love,” says the film’s director, Hwang Dong-hyuk.
Netflix’s decision on whether to renew Squid Game for a second season would seem to be a no-brainer, wouldn’t you think? According to Bloomberg, the dystopian Korean programme was enormously successful with audiences throughout the world, generating nearly a billion dollars for the streaming service with 130 million viewers in total. It’s understandable that they couldn’t pass up the opportunity to milk a potentially lucrative cash cow: in an interview with the Associated Press, series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk announced that the show would certainly return, this time with even more Gi-hun escapades.
He says the following in his native Korean:
“So there’s been so much pressure, so much demand and so much love for a second season. So I almost feel like you leave us no choice! But I will say there will indeed be a second season. It’s in my head right now. I’m in the planning process currently. But I do think it’s too early to say when and how that’s going to happen. So I will promise you this…”
“Gi-hun will come back, and he’ll do something for the world.” he says in English further down the page. After all, that’s a big promise, although one that was prominently teased at the conclusion of the first season.
And, other from that, is Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) the character we’re most interested in learning more about? Isn’t it true that Jun-ho was shot in the shoulder and pushed over a precipice to his apparent death – supposedly! – in the process? Usually, if you don’t see a dead body, it’s because a door has been purposefully left wide open by the perpetrator. However, given how immensely wonderful Wi Ha-joon is, it’s possible that this is just wishful thinking. After all, who would want another season of Squid Game without him and his copious charisma?
You can see a clip of the interview in the video player below. In any event, we should find out more information regarding the upcoming season of Squid Game soon. In the interim, you may watch the first season of the show, which was the biggest television breakthrough of 2021, on Netflix. Park Hae-soo, Jung Ho-yeon, O Yeong-su, Heo Sung-tae, Anupam Tripathi, and Kim Joo-ryoung are also featured in the film.
