Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 could be similar to the Z Fold 3 as per leaks
Although there have been numerous leaks about the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, we haven’t yet seen much of it, and what seems to be our best impression of the potential design may not be accurate. That’s according to TechTalkTV(opens in new tab), who asserted on Twitter that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4’s camera configuration will resemble that of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 almost perfectly rather than changing from what we saw in unofficial renders posted by @OnLeaks, a reputable leaker. The camera in those renderings appeared to be more influenced by the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, with the lenses rising straight up from the back rather than being contained in a separate camera block.
However, there isn’t much of a difference because the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and those renders both have three vertical lenses and a flash below them. Just that the Z Fold 3 has a metallic housing around the lenses, as does the Z Fold 4 based on this most recent leak. We’d be hesitant to believe this claim, especially since OnLeaks has a better track record (although TechTalkTV has occasionally accurately leaked information), but OnLeaks responded to the tweet with the word “Damn,” which doesn’t suggest that they are challenging the assertion.
If you were looking for a new look, this might be disappointing. However, TechTalkTV also stated in a subsequent tweet(opens in a new tab) that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 will “definitely have a 50MP main camera.” Although this claim has been made before by a number of other leakers, hearing it from a new source increases the likelihood that it is true. If true, the Galaxy Z Fold 3’s 12MP main camera would receive an improvement at least in terms of megapixels.
If we had to pick between a new design and a new sensor, we would definitely choose the latter because, while the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3’s 12MP main sensor is decent, it is hardly outstanding. The Samsung Galaxy S22’s 50MP sensor, whose performance we were generally pleased with, is most likely the same one that will be used in the rumored 50MP model here. Although we’d like the 108MP sensor from the Galaxy S22 Ultra given how costly the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 is undoubtedly going to be, we’ll take what we can get.
Previous rumors have suggested additional camera improvements as well. According to numerous reports, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 will have a telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, an improvement over the Z Fold 3’s 2x optical zoom. Again, while that represents a slight improvement compared to ideal conditions, it is still far superior to nothing. However, based on what we’ve heard so far, we doubt the Z Fold 4 will challenge our top camera phone ranking.
