The Salt and Sacrifice parry concept isn’t well-explained but enables you to deflect opponent blows and stagger them. A parry master can survive Salt and Sacrifice considerably easier than an ordinary player, but failure means taking a gremlin’s blade to the nose. Here’s how to do it the right way.

- To parry, you must block the adversary attack at the same instant it falls (and be facing the enemy attack, of course). Too early and you do a regular block. You’re attacked too late.
- If you get it perfect, you’ll see a blue circle surrounding the hit and hear a greater boom than with a conventional block or assault. This block has three advantages
- It requires less energy (basically nothing). Parrying decreases damage to zero, whilst blocking reduces it by a percentage depending on the weapon/shield.
- Multiple parries on the same adversary stuns them, allowing for follow-up assaults.
- This is a hazardous technique, but we recommend doing it, particularly against familiar foes. Parrying is toughest when you don’t know their attack patterns and when the strike will land, but it becomes easier as you learn how foes work.
- We suggest mastering it to help dealing with common enemies easier. Riposting opponent attacks as you cut through them feels nice and strengthens melee characters. You’ll feel better after duelling ghouls.
