Ricky Martin drops a new single and shows off his bullfighting prowess
Ricky Martin’s new EP, PLAY, was released in the midst of all the controversy and back-and-forth over whether or not he was on the right side of the law.
This is Ricky Martin’s first EP in a long time, and he is making a major splash with “Acido Sabor” (Acidic taste), a romantic-yet-heartbreaking song, and he is inviting everyone to go behind the scenes of the music video.
iZaak and Subelo Neo wrote “Acido Sabor” and Ricky Martin talked to Billboard about the song’s flamenco vibes mixed with pop-urban references. “It’s incredible. You never know what’s going to happen in the creative process,” he noted. “I went to the studio with Subelo Neo and iZaak, and we let the ideas flow. I thought a party song was going to be born, but apparently not.”
Carlos Perez has a chance to shine in the film where Ricky Martin is portraying a Torero or a Spanish Bullfighter as he is being coached.
While shooting, “The magic that was felt during the filming, at the top of a mountain, looking at the ocean, the architecture, the weather, the radiant sun, the entire time, the communication – there was a lot of magic,” says the video’s director.
Ricky Martin and Carlos Perez invested all of their creative energy into the video, and their chemistry can be seen in how well-constructed it appears. It seems as though something happens when Martin is behind the camera that allows Martin to be himself, Martin said. “‘Acido Sabor’ is something different.” says the author.
The song “Ácido Sabor” by Martin was a success because he followed his heart and went back to his favourite genre of music, pop ballads.
