Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland fired by Adult Swim
Roiland has left the company he co-founded in 2016 as a video game developer, Squanch Games. The announcement was made by the corporation on Tuesday night.
According to reports, Adult Swim has cut relations with “Rick & Morty” co-creator Justin Roiland after he was arrested for domestic abuse.
There will be no more collaboration between Adult Swim and Justin Roiland, the network declared in a statement.
Roiland was arrested and charged with one felony crime of domestic abuse with corporal harm and one felony offence of false imprisonment by menace, violence, fraud, and/or deceit in Orange County, California. In 2020, he entered a not guilty plea, and on January 13, 2023, he was in court for a preliminary hearing. There is currently no scheduled trial date. His next scheduled pre-trial hearing is on April 27.
Roiland not only voices Rick and Morty and co-created the show with Dan Harmon, but also a number of recurring and supporting characters. The programme will likely go on without Roiland, and his parts will reportedly be filled by new cast members. In 2018, Adult Swim renewed “Rick & Morty” for a further 70 episodes with the goal of airing at least 100 total episodes. Season 6 concluded in December 2022, bringing the total number of episodes to 61.
Roiland also has “Solar Opposites,” a Hulu animated comedy that was just renewed for a fifth season. The animated comedy series “Koala Man,” which debuted on Hulu, features his voice work and he serves as an executive producer on the project.
