Resident Evil Re: Verse now has a release date
Resident Evil Re: Verse, which has been postponed twice, now has a release date, with Capcom’s new multiplayer Resident Evil venture due to arrive on October 28th alongside new Resident Evil Village content, the publisher said this week. That revelation, on the other hand, came with less fanfare and was more of a tacked-on surprise during the broader Capcom showcase, which had a solid performance from the Resident Evil franchise. According to Capcom, the game will be free for everyone who owns Resident Evil Village, however, it’s unclear what plans the company has for the game outside of Village.
Re: Verse was only referenced briefly during the Capcom event, and it was similarly noted in related blog entries following the showcase. Capcom producer Tsuyoshi Kanda revealed the release plans for Re: Verse in one of these announcements.
“In addition, Resident Evil Re: Verse, which was a bonus content for Resident Evil Village, will start service at the same time as the Winters’ Expansion on October 28,” Kanda said in a post over on the PlayStation Blog. “We hope you will enjoy this action-packed game as well.”
Capcom has paid no attention to the game on social media, which may not be reassuring to people who were on the fence about the game (and there were plenty). Re: Verse has been played in an open beta multiple times, featuring a unique premise that allows players to handle both heroes and monstrosities from across the Resident Evil universe in multiplayer brawls, however, the game’s reception has been mixed. It has a graphical filter that some people don’t like, however it was later revealed that you can take it off if you want. At the very least, previous Resident Evil multiplayer initiatives have received mixed reviews in comparison to new single-player games and remakes.
However, if you already bought Village, the game is free, so there’s no reason not to test it if you already own the final main Resident Evil game. That game is getting some new DLC and a VR mode on the same day as Re:Verse, so there will still be enough to play if Re: Verse isn’t your cup of tea.
