Red Bull and Sergio Perez announced a new F1 contract extension
Sergio Perez has signed a new contract with Red Bull that will keep him in Milton Keynes until the end of the 2024 Formula One season. Sergio Perez’s fortunes have improved after winning the Monaco Grand Prix, as the Mexican has reached an agreement with Red Bull for a new contract. Perez’s original contract with Red Bull expired at the end of the 2022 season after he joined the team in 21 as a teammate of Max Verstappen and took over for Alex Albon in Milton Keynes. He has signed a new two-year contract with the team that would keep him with the team through the end of the 2024 season, making him the 14th driver in Formula One since his debut in 2011.
NEW CONTRACT EXTENSION FOR SERGIO PEREZ WITH RED BULL
Perez has had a solid start to the season, with podium finishes in Australia, Imola, and Spain before winning his third Formula One race in the wet/dry in Monaco on Sunday. In March, he won his first career pole position in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in Jeddah. He is now 15 points behind Verstappen in the drivers’ standings, as Red Bull has won five of the seven Grands Prix since the new technical restrictions took effect in 2022. Sergio Perez signed a new contract deal with Red Bull before the Monaco Grand Prix, committing to the four-time constructors’ champions for a third and fourth season.
Perez was instrumental in Verstappen’s victory in the 2021 World Championship in Abu Dhabi, as he held up Lewis Hamilton on older tyres, allowing Verstappen to take advantage of the late-race safety car controversy. In his remarks on Perez’s contract renewal, team manager Christian Horner emphasized how effectively the Mexican had integrated into the team.
