Rapper A$AP Rocky Faces Assault Charges in November Shooting Incident
On Monday (August 15), A$AP Rocky’s pending charges in a November 2021 shooting in Los Angeles were disclosed by Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón.
Rapper Rakim Mayers, real name unknown, is charged with two counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm. “Discharging a gun in a public place is a serious offence that could have ended with tragic consequences not only for the person targeted but also for innocent bystanders visiting Hollywood,” Gascón stated in a news release. “My office conducted a thorough review of the evidence in this case and determined that the addition of a special firearm allegation was warranted.
On November 6th, Rocky was arrested in connection with an ongoing LAPD investigation into a shooting that left no one dead in Hollywood. He was later released on $550,000 bond. The rapper and his friend got into an altercation that ended with Rocky apparently firing a semi-automatic weapon. T he victim was just lightly hurt.
At the time of the arrest, Rocky was in the midst of returning to Los Angeles on a private plane after a holiday in Barbados with Rihanna, according to reports by NBC News and TMZ.
In 2019, Swedish authorities detained Rocky on charges of assault after the victim allegedly sustained injuries from punches, kicks, and a bottle attack. He spent over five weeks in behind bars before being released, but he was later proven guilty.
On May 13, the rapper and Rihanna became parents to their first child, a son. The duo started dating in 2020, and the “Umbrella” singer revealed her pregnancy in January.
