Prince William describes his tragic response to Diana’s passing
When asked about the day he learned that his mother, Princess Diana, had died in a car crash in 1997, Prince William revealed his terrible reaction.
In an interview with D’ACCORD! Magazine, Prince William, then 15 years old, recalled feeling “numb and lightheaded” after hearing the news of his mother’s death from his father, Prince Charles.
On August 31, 1997, Diana and her companion, Dodi Fayed, were tragically killed in a car crash in Paris.
According to reports at the period, the Queen removed all newspapers from Balmoral before leaving Princes William and Harry to sleep there alone.
William and Harry were ultimately informed by their father, Prince Charles, and the moment was described by William as “like an earthquake.”
“I just remember feeling completely numb, disoriented, dizzy,” he also recounted, adding, “And you keep asking, ‘Why me?” all the time. ‘What did I do? Why did this happen to us?”
