Prince William and Harry pleaded King Charles III not to marry Camilla
Despite their current disagreements, Princes Harry and William once agreed on the issue of their father, King Charles III’s second marriage.
The Duke of Sussex, co-founder of the Archewell Group, recently revealed that Queen Elizabeth II “grudgingly granted” Charles’ request to marry Queen Consort Camilla several years after the loss of Princess Diana in his forthcoming memoir Spare.
According to a translation of Harry’s book into Spanish acquired by NBC News, he writes, “In spite of Willy and I begging him not to, my father proceeded with his plan, We shook him by the hand and wished him all the best without hard feelings. We recognised that he was going to be with the woman he always loved, the woman that fate had in store for him from the beginning.”
The couple tied the knot in 2005 in a Windsor town hall ceremony.
NBC News has contacted Kensington Palace, Buckingham Palace, and a representative for Prince Harry. Everyone has been avoiding the media and has thus far refused to comment.
Charles and Camilla first met in the 1970s and have remained close ever since, including during his 15-year marriage to Princess Diana, Harry and William’s mother. Charles said in an interview with British journalist Jonathan Dimbleby in 1994 that he stayed faithful to Diana “until it became clear that the marriage had irretrievably broken down.”
In another part of Spare, Harry talks about how Charles “did not hug” him when he told him about his mother’s death.
According to a copy of the book obtained by NBC News, Harry writes, “What I do remember with stunning clarity is that I did not cry,”
In the book, which was released on January 10th, Harry also made other surprising claims about the royal family, including that he and William got into a physical battle over Meghan Markle.
According to an excerpt released by The Guardian, Harry writes, “He grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and he knocked me to the floor, “I landed on the dog’s bowl, which cracked under my back, the pieces cutting into me. I lay there for a moment, dazed, then got to my feet and told him to get out.”
Harry, when asked by Good Morning America about his difficult connection with William, said that Diana “would be sad to see their tie damaged,” adding, “I think she’d be looking at it long term to know that there are certain things that we need to go through to be able to heal the relationship.”
