Prince Harry and Chelsy Davy’s breakup was mostly caused by Queen Elizabeth II
Prince Harry blames Queen Elizabeth II’s disapproval of his ex-girlfriend Chelsy Davy’s freewheeling lifestyle for contributing to their divorce.
The Duke of Sussex says of Chels in “Spare” that he appreciated her “ease,” especially because she wasn’t difficult.
“She didn’t care what anyone thought. She wore miniskirts and high-heeled boots, danced however she wanted, drank tequila like me, and all of this made me really happy.”
Harry admits that he was anxious about the late king’s opinion of Davy at the time.
“I couldn’t help what my grandmother thought about it. Or the people. And the last thing I wanted was for Chels to change to please them,” harry wrote
Harry says that he “wasn’t sure” if Davy was “the one” throughout their on-and-off dating between 2004 and 2011. He continues, “The whole world isn’t made to put up with constant scrutiny, and I don’t know if Chels could bear it, and I couldn’t ask her to,”
Harry reveals more about the paparazzi’s suspected under-the-car monitoring device placement as he describes their long-term pursuit of Davy.
As for whether or not she was ready for it all, “Chels insisted that she was not sure if she was prepared for all of that. A whole life with someone on your heels? What could I say to her?” Writes Harry.
“I would miss her very much, but I understood she put her freedom first,” he explaines. “If I had the choice, I’d want to live like that as well.”
Having broken up in 2011 after Davy made their separation public on Facebook and Harry announcing that he was “100% single,” the two eventually reconciled.
Harry remembers feeling “a certain way” about the other males swooning over Davy all night at Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding in April of that year.
