Prince George and Princess Charlotte’s gave this absurd nickname for father
British TV chef Ainsley Harriott has revealed Prince William’s odd nickname among his children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte. The chef explained that the royal family first heard his humorous moniker during a radio interview.
Ainsley told The Sun that he and Greg James from Radio 1 had been joking about frying a fish in the bathtub while speaking about ways to spend the time in the tub.
Greg inquired, “could you cook a fish in the bath?” the chef recalled. As an example, “I said ‘yeah, if it’s a little bit of seabass or plaice or something like that’. A thick piece of fish would be undesirable since it wouldn’t poach well.
“Anyway, apparently Prince William and Kate were taking George and Charlotte to school and they found it hysterical.”
William later visited the radio station and reported to Greg, “The kids love it. They loved that you were talking about eating fish in the water.”
After meeting the lucky winner of a TV contest at her house on live TV, Ainsley’s catchphrase, “Why hello there, Will. Poachy, poachy, poachy.”
It was revealed that “George and Charlotte now call their dad Poachy. Isn’t that sweet and so lovely?”
This is not William’s sole moniker. William is called “Harold” by his younger brother, whereas Harry is called “Willy” throughout Prince Harry’s book, Spare.
Diana, Princess of Wales, often referred to William as “Wombat” in a playful manner.
In a 2007 interview with NBC, William said, “It began when I was two … when we went to Australia with our parents, and the wombat, you know, that’s the local animal, so I just basically got called that, not because I look like a wombat, or maybe I do,”
Prince Harry said, “I can’t get rid of it now.” It appears the moniker has stayed.
