“Poolman’ – Mystery comedy, Ariana DeBose and Jennifer Jason Leigh Join Chris Pine-Directed Film”
According to Deadline, Oscar winner Ariana DeBose and Golden Globe contender Jennifer Jason Leigh have been cast in Chris Pine’s upcoming directorial debut, Poolman, which will begin filming in Los Angeles in June. DeBose and Leigh will join Pine, Annette Bening, and Danny DeVito, who were previously revealed as part of the group.
Chris Pine will direct Poolman from a script he co-wrote with Ian Gotler, who will also produce the film under their Barry Linen Motion Pictures label. Stuart Ford and Linda McDonough will serve as executive producers, with Stacey Sher and Patty Jenkins serving as producers.
The movie is being described as “Big Lebowski meets LA film noir with a good splash of La La Land,” and it is expected to have some amusing appearances.
“Darren Barrenman is a hapless dreamer and would-be philosopher who spends his days tending to the pool of the Tahitian Tiki apartment building in sunny Los Angeles and crashing city council meetings with his neighbours Jack and Diane (DeVito, Bening),” according to the synopsis. “When Barrenman uncovers LA’s largest water heist since Chinatown, he forms uneasy alliances with a beautiful and well-connected femme fatale while following every lead he can with corrupt city officials, burned-out Hollywood types, and mysterious benefactors – all in the name of protecting his family Los Angeles is priceless.”
Pine and Jenkins, who is producing for Wicious Pictures, will rejoin in Poolman’s film. Following Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman 1984, and the short series I Am the Night, this is their most recent collaboration.
