Many Pokemon, including Hippopotas, have distinct male and female forms. Male hippos have tawny skin and snouts and dark brown irises. The irises of female hippos are beige, while their muzzle and torso are brown.

The only method to obtain a Hippowdon is to either trade for one or evolve a Hippopotas, as they can’t be located in the wild in Paldea.

Hippowdon, like its ancestors before it, displays sex-specific physical differences. The bellies of male Hippowdon are a brown color, while the heads, backs, and legs are a dark grey. While male Hippowdowns have black snouts, backs, and legs, females are entirely grey.
