Philadelphia mass shooting on South Street leaves 3 dead and many injured
According to several reports, at least three individuals were killed and almost a dozen others were injured in a shooting incident in Philadelphia on Saturday evening. Authorities arrived just before midnight in the South Street neighborhood, where they discovered multiple gunmen, one of them was firing into a throng of people, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. According to the site, Philadelphia Police Department Inspector D.F. Pace stated 14 people had been shot, three of whom died.
“You can imagine there were hundreds of individuals enjoying South Street, as they do every single weekend, when this shooting broke out,” Pace said, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.
According to the report, the guy was shot at least once by a Philadelphia police officer before fleeing. The suspect was apparently shot in the arm, however, it is unclear whether the suspect was hit by officers’ gunfire in the midst of the chaos. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Eric Walsh, an employee of the adjoining O’Neals Pub, heard gunfire at 11:30 p.m. and responded quickly to usher individuals in and around the bar to seek shelter.
“People were coming off the street with blood splatters on white sneakers and skinned knees and skinned elbows,” Walsh said per the report. “We literally just were balling up napkins and wetting them and handing them to people… it was chaos.”
According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, one of the shooters apparently dropped a handgun with an extended magazine, which was retrieved by authorities. A second firearm was discovered early Sunday by officers. According to Fox 29, no arrests were made at the site, though police say the initial suspect is a woman. According to the report, she was last seen driving a 2018 Volkswagen Atlas with the NJ license plate K88-EUL.
The city of Philadelphia is still grieving from nine separate shooting occurrences that occurred the night before, on Friday and Saturday, and resulted in the death of a pregnant lady. Officials say at least eight more persons were hurt.
