Persuasion: Release date
Has been released by Netflix. The cinematic adaption will premiere on July 15.
The video, which you can watch below, stars Johnson’s Anne Elliot as she attempts to rekindle her romance with “the one that got away” after over a decade apart. However, it is up to her whether she would now follow her heart or pass up this opportunity for the sake of her family.
The film adaption will revolve around Anne Elliot, a nonconforming woman with modern sensibilities who is “living with her snooty family on the verge of bankruptcy.” When Frederick Wentworth, the dashing one she once expelled, reappears in her life, Anne must choose between putting the past behind her and following her heart when it comes to second chances.”
The 1817 novel has been adapted for television several times. It was initially made into a BBC miniseries featuring Daphne Slater and Paul Daneman, followed by an ITV miniseries in 1917 and a TV film adaptation starring Ciarán Hinds in 1995.
Persuasion on Netflix is characterised as a fresh and funny take on the renowned Jane Austen narrative that stays close to the source material. Dakota Johnson, Cosmo Jarvis, Henry Golding, Richard E. Grant, Nikki Amuka-Bird, and others star in it.
Carrie Cracknell directs Persuasion from a script co-adapted by Ron Bass and Alice Victoria Winslow. Cracknell’s feature directorial debut comes after directing Jake Gyllenhaal and Tom Sturridge to Tony nominations in Sea Wall/A Life last year. Andrew Lazar and Christina Weiss Lurie are producers, as are Elizabeth Cantillon, Michael Constable, and David Fliegel of MRC Film Romance Label.
