Persuasion: Release date
On July 15, 2022, Netflix will release Persuasion internationally. So, this summer, be ready for some fantastic period drama action!
Persuasion on Netflix is being touted as a fresh and funny take on the renowned Jane Austen narrative that stays close to the source material. The film adaption will follow Anne Elliot, a nonconforming woman with modern sensibilities who is “living on the verge of bankruptcy with her snooty family.” Anne must choose between putting the past behind her and trusting to her emotions when it comes to second chances when Frederick Wentworth—the dashing one she once pushed away—returns into her life.
The 1817 novel has been adapted for television several times. It was initially made as a BBC miniseries starring Daphne Slater and Paul Daneman, then into an ITV miniseries in 1917, and finally into a 1995 TV film starring Ciarán Hinds.
Carrie Cracknell directs Persuasion, which is based on a screenplay co-adapted by Ron Bass and Alice Victoria Winslow. Cracknell’s movie directorial debut comes after directing Jake Gyllenhaal and Tom Sturridge to Tony nominations in Sea Wall/ A Life last year. Andrew Lazar and Christina Weiss Lurie, as well as Elizabeth Cantillon, Michael Constable, and David Fliegel of the MRC Film Romance Label, are the producers.
