Players of Overwatch 2 now have the opportunity to watch matches instead of only participating in them. We’ve got all the info you need to keep tabs on a pal’s progress or observe their gameplay while you wait to join the fun.
Overwatch 2, the sequel to Blizzard’s first entry in the Hero shooter series, was more of an expansion than a radical departure from its predecessor. This is not a negative thing, and it’s one of the main reasons why OWL gamers keep coming back every month.
In terms of the actual gameplay, the format has been drastically altered from the customary 6v6 to 5v5, which changes the dynamic of every match but also leaves one fewer position to fill. This can make doing things like playing a game with a friend more challenging.

Overwatch 2: How to spectate matches
In Overwatch 2, spectating requires either waiting for a friend in Quick Play or Arcade, or switching to the Spectator side of the game in Custom matches.
Arcade mode & Quick Play
So, if you want to play with a friend, you’ll have to wait till they’re online and already in a match before you can join them. Once they are, you can access their profile using the game’s social list. After that, select them from the list and hit the Spectate button.

Custom games
Join the lobby, and then choose the Spectator team while playing a Custom game. From that point on, things won’t change much.
