Olivia Culpo believed she and Nick Jonas will eventually get married
The model, now 30, discussed her breakup with the actor, now 30, on the series premiere of The Culpo Sisters on TLC. After nearly two years of dating, Culpo and Jonas split up in 2015.
Culpo opened up about her romance with the singer after being prodded by the show’s producers.
She started off with, “Do I have to talk about that?” before confessing, “I did date Nick and that was a very formative experience for me.”
She continued, thinking back on the beginning of their relationship and the aftermath of their breakup: “I moved to L.A. with him. I had no brand, no money, and I was in love. That was great right, but when he broke up with me, I was kind of left with no sense of identity.
To which she elaborated, “my whole identity was in him,” a common enough tale of a young person in love. “which is a very common story of a young person in love. I thought we were going to get married, I thought all the things, and I just remember night after night looking up at my ceiling in my apartment that I couldn’t afford thinking to myself how am I going to pay my rent.”
A time when she “couldn’t even afford my groceries,” she said. It was a defining moment in my life, but I learned from it that failure is not an option.
While Jonas is now married to actress Priyanka Chopra, Culpo has moved on and is dating San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey.
Culpo made an exception for McCaffrey after previously dating NFL players Danny Amendola and Tim Tebow and Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight earlier this month, she said that she is much more comfortable with her current boyfriend than with previous ones.
“He’s just the best, I feel like he is really everything that I could ever ask for,” she said of McCaffrey, 26. “So I never have to worry about anything. I think that was the reason why I didn’t want to date an athlete, no offense, because there is a reputation there.”
“He just comes from a great family. We have a lot in common in that respect. I feel like you can really tell who a person is by the people that raise them, and I just love his parents so much. They have a great relationship.” Culpo said
The former Miss Universe joked about how “hot” her boyfriend is and told that she is “excited” about what the future holds for the couple. The Culpo Sisters star also said that McCaffrey has a “good head on his shoulders” and that the two are planning their future together.
You could say that the famous athlete appreciates Culpo for being who she really is.
In the pilot episode of The Culpo Sisters, she revealed, “His favorite version of me is zit cream, hair down and no makeup,”
