Netflix’s new series about the last Blockbuster ever premieres November 3rd
Netflix has announced the release date and provided photographs (which can be viewed below) for the new Blockbuster Video series, so grab your favorite munchies and check out a movie. On November 3, a new half-hour sitcom based on the once-dominant video rental service will premiere. The first season will consist of 10 episodes. Vanessa Ramos is responsible for writing the office comedy (Brooklyn Nine-Nine). The Netflix perspective won’t be looking back at the golden age of video rental stores like Blockbuster, but it will see the end of an iconic American institution. As the final store closes in 2019, the surviving cast members will have to work hard to keep the business afloat for as long as possible.
It will be headed by Randall Park (WandaVision) and Timmy Yoon, the store manager. Brooklyn Nine-Nine), his future coworker, and crush (Brooklyn Nine-Nine). It will also star JB Smoove (Curb Your Enthusiasm), Tyler Alvarez (Crush), Madeleine Arthur (Devil in Ohio), Olga Merediz (In the Heights), and Kamaia Fairburn (Endlings) (Endlings). Keegan-Connor Tracy (Once Upon a Time), Jayne Entwistle (Desperate Housewives), and Adam Beauchesne (The Punisher) will all appear in supporting roles in the Netflix blockbuster series (You Me Her).
A perfect representation of a Blockbuster store can be seen in the Netflix photos, complete with personnel in blue polos, khakis, and name tags. The workforce is shown working diligently, with some suspect expressions that hint at the shenanigans to come. Smoove’s persona may also be a shopper interested in the antics taking place there. Ramos, David Caspe (Happy Endings), and Jackie Clarke (The Walking Dead) will all contribute as writers and executive producers to the show that Ramos will create (Superstore). Executive producers for Blockbuster include John Fox, John Davis, and Payman Benz.
