Netflix has revealed the release date for season 5 of the hit royal drama series The Crown
Netflix has, at long last, announced the premiere date for the upcoming fifth season of its popular royal drama series, The Crown. The information was revealed by the streaming service during its annual Tudum fan event, when it was confirmed that the debut of season 5 of The Crown would take place on November 9. We have known for some time that The Crown season 5 will be arriving on screens in November (Netflix said as much during last year’s Tudum event), but the streamer has until now been tight-lipped on the show’s actual return date. Netflix has finally provided this information.
Imelda Staunton will take over Olivia Colman’s role as the late Queen Elizabeth II in the upcoming episodes of The Crown. These new episodes are expected to explore the end of Charles and Diana’s marriage, John Major’s time as Prime Minister, and the Queen’s annus horribilis in 1992. Olivia Colman will continue to play the role of the late Queen Elizabeth II. Dominic West and Elizabeth Debicki are playing Prince Charles and Princess Diana, respectively, while Jonathan Pryce will take on the role of Prince Philip. Princess Margaret will be played by Lesley Manville, and John Major will be played by Jonny Lee Miller. Both actors have been cast in their respective roles. On the hub page we made just for season 5 of The Crown, you can find out everything you need to know about the remaining cast members.
However, contrary to popular belief, the delay in the restoration of The Crown has not been caused by the widespread COVID-19 pandemic that has been sweeping the world. Instead, even before the virus began presenting the entertainment industry with significant production hurdles, the show had planned to take a break for a year. Filming for The Crown season 6, which will be the show’s final installment, has already begun, despite the fact that production on the show had to be temporarily halted after the passing of Queen Elizabeth II in September. This information is about what will happen to the show after season 5 ends.
Addressing the news of her passing, The Crown showrunner Peter Morgan said: “The Crown is a love letter to [the Queen] and I’ve nothing to add for now, just silence and respect.” The fifth season of The Crown isn’t the only new Netflix series that will be available to stream in the month of November. The Addams Family, a reboot of the much-loved comedy-horror phenomenon The Addams Family, has also been granted a release date for the month of November, and a string of new Netflix movies are planned to join both shows during the same month.
