Netflix has decided to crack down on password sharing globally in 2023

Netflix has decided to crack down on password sharing globally in 2023

Netflix has made the decision to crack down on password sharing all across the world following the success of test programs it ran earlier this year in various Latin American nations. This will be accomplished by charging the primary account holder a supplementary fee for each additional user that accesses the account despite residing in a different household than the primary account holder. Account holders should be prepared to pay roughly $3 per month to include up to two people who reside outside their household if the additional charge is identical to the experimental programs. The fee has not yet been disclosed, but if it is similar to other programs, it will be.

On Tuesday, October 18, Netflix made the announcement during its most recent quarterly results call. The company stated that the change will take place sometime in the early part of 2023. If the owner of an account makes the decision to ask their Netflix guests to stop using their password, they can now migrate their profile along with all of its settings to a new account using a migration tool that was introduced by Netflix earlier this week. If they do this, their guests will no longer be able to access their accounts.

According to statistics that were published on Tuesday by Netflix, the firm currently has 223 million customers all over the world. This represents a net increase of 2.4 million users during the period of July to September. Netflix is likely to be pleased with the apparent turnaround in subscriber numbers after suffering losses of 200,000 subscribers in the first quarter and almost one million subscribers in the second quarter. The streaming service also anticipates adding 4.5 million new subscribers in the current quarter.

On December 8, Disney+, which is a major competitor to Netflix, will also launch an advertisement-supported tier that will cost $8 a month. If you are contemplating switching streaming services or signing up for one for the first time in a while, the lists of new movies and television shows that are appearing on various platforms that are provided by Digital Trends may be of use to you.
