Mississippi Arrests Former NFL Player Jerrell Powe for Alleged Kidnapping
A former NFL and Ole Miss athlete was detained last week on suspicion of abduction.
The official documents show that on Thursday, Jerrell Powe, 35, was booked into the Madison County Detention Center in Mississippi.
Ridgeland Police Chief Brian Myers told WLBT that Powe was detained at a Chase Bank on Highland Colony Parkway. About 12 miles north of Jackson, Mississippi, is the town of Ridgeland.
A little over 100 miles from Ridgeland lies the town of Laurel, Mississippi, where the event, according to Myers, first occurred. Myers stated that Gavin Bates, age 35, was also detained and charged with abduction.
Myers assured the media outlet that the victim was okay. According to WLBT, the victim reported to police that he had been kidnapped and “forced to withdraw money” from a bank.
According to Fox News, at around 1:40 p.m., officers from the Ridgeland Police Department were dispatched to the Chase Bank.
In the meanwhile, Powe will remain in custody without release at the Madison County Detention Center until his hearing on Tuesday.
Since 2008, Powe has been a member of the Ole Miss football team.
In 2011, the Kansas City Chiefs selected him in the sixth round of the draught. Before joining the Washington Redskins, now called the Commanders, in 2015, he played for the Houston Texans. After one year, he was freed.
