Matty Healy of The 1975 is Back to Kissing Fans at His Concerts
The first kiss occurred at Friday night’s Las Vegas gig by the British band. While playing “Robbers,” Healy invited a female fan on stage, where they danced and he gave her a kiss on the lips, which she returned. The next day, Healy repeated the act in San Diego, this time by kissing a male fan.
Although the male fan has yet to be identified, a female Las Vegas showgoer who goes by the Twitter handle “Isabella” has come forward to state that the kiss was completely consensual. She says she displayed a message on her phone to Healy, prompting him to invite her upstairs.
“On a real note I do want to state some facts before we get any farther, i had this on my phone because he mentioned at some point ‘I can only make out with you,'” she explained. “So I did this, he saw it and brought me up, HE ASKED before he kissed me! Also I’m a grown age of 24.”
Fans pointed out that Healy went through a similar performance kissing period in 2014 when clips of the kisses went viral online. To further demonstrate his disapproval of Dubai’s anti-LGBT regulations in 2019, he kissed a male admirer on stage. The kissing antics of this past weekend follow an interview he gave to The Guardian earlier this month in which he expressed discomfort at being “sexualized by fans.”
Recent viral scenes from the band’s tour, including Healy yelling at concert staff to rescue a fan while utilising an autotune microphone, have made the 1975 frontman a household name. Recently he grabbed attention for eating raw meat on stage.
On Monday night, The 1975 will perform in Los Angeles, and they’ll keep touring the United States through the end of the year. Their overseas tour begins in 2023 and will take them to places like the UK and Japan.
