Mario will be played by Chris Pratt in Nintendo’s animated film, to be released on December 21st, 2022
Also Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black, Seth Rogan, and Keegan-Michael Key will star in upcoming flix.
During today’s Nintendo Direct presentation, Nintendo and Illumination announced that the future Mario film will be released on December 21st, 2022, with Chris Pratt voicing Mario.
Anya Taylor-Joy will play Princess Peach, Charlie Day will play Luigi, Jack Black will play Bowser, Seth Rogan will play Donkey Kong, Keegan-Michael Key will play Toad, and Fred Armisen will play Cranky Kong in the next film. For “surprise cameos,” Charles Martinet, who has voiced Mario in Nintendo games for almost three decades, will appear in the film. Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike are also expected to appear in the flick.
Despite the knowledge that Nintendo was collaborating on the project with Illumination, the animation studio behind films like Despicable Me and Minions, and that Mario inventor Shigeru Miyamoto was participating as a producer, there has been little news about the planned Mario film until today.
Nintendo has revealed a few additional details about the upcoming film, including the fact that it will be directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic (Teen Titans Go! and Teen Titans Go! To the Movies), and will have a screenplay by Matthew Fogel (The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part and Minions: The Rise of Gru.) There’s no title or basic plot elements yet, but with a release date in less than a year, we’ll most certainly learn more about the next picture in the months ahead.
