Mariah Carey Announces a Bitcoin Giveaway and Collaborates with the Gemini Cryptocurrency Platform
The collaboration also has a charitable component.
Mariah Carey is the most recent celebrity to enter the realm of cryptocurrencies. The Grammy-winning singer recently collaborated with Gemini to inspire followers to make their own investment. Users can buy, trade, store, and earn cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin, etherium, and DeFi tokens on the digital platform. The site is home to over fifty different cryptocurrencies.
“It’s great to see Mariah and other celebrities discover bitcoin as an investment and hedge against inflation,” said Tyler Winklevoss, Gemini’s CEO, in a press release. “Cryptos like bitcoin and ether were two of the best-performing assets of the last decade. Our goal at Gemini is to help educate you on the promise of crypto and make it simple, easy, and safe for you to engage in this new asset class.”
The “Honey” singer, in collaboration with Gemini, made $20 in bitcoin available to any individuals who signed up using the code “MARIAH.” The collaboration also has a charitable component. A portion of the trading costs paid by people who sign up using her identity will be donated to Black Girls Code, a non-profit that encourages young women and girls from minority areas to pursue careers in technology.
Carey broke the news in a shared Instagram video, providing followers with a quick primer on how to make their first cryptocurrency buy.
“Did you know that you don’t need to buy a whole bitcoin to invest?” she inquired, verifying she had learned more about the process through Gemini’s library of materials and tools.
Gemini recently bought Nifty Gateway, a prominent platform for non-fungible tokens (NFTs, popularly known as “nifties”), which underpin the burgeoning market of digital collectibles and virtual commodities.
