MacBook Pro likely won’t get M2 Pro or M2 Max chips
According to new speculation, Apple may be storing its M2 Pro or M2 Max CPUs for later models of the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro. Ming-Chi Kuo, an industry analyst, says that the next 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros with M2 processors will go into production in the fourth quarter of 2022. However, it is unlikely that they will use TSMC’s 3nm process, which is thought to be what the M2 Pro or M2 Max silicon will be built on.
Because the 3nm node will not be available until the first half of 2023, the next Pro models will very certainly use the same 5nm node as the standard M2 in the new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro 13-inch, which are the existing M2 processors. Given Apple’s track record with laptop releases, these rumors have a decent possibility of becoming accurate. Apple will offer its MacBook Pros the M2 Pro or M2 Max upgrade, according to Kuo and Trusted Reviews.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who predicted the Pro refresh in his Power On newsletter in July 2022, the enhanced silicon will be available between Q1 2023 and Q3 2023. He also projected that the new, high-specced M2 processors will place a greater emphasis on graphics, similar to the M1 Pro and M1 Max before it. It will be fascinating to see what the new M2 processors have to offer; hopefully, they will not have the same issues as the current M2 MacBook Pro, such as slower SSD speeds when compared to the M1 MacBook Pro.
However, like with all things Apple, you won’t know until Apple makes an announcement, so take everything with a grain of salt.
