MacBook Air 2022: Release date, Price, Specifications, and More details
Apple fans hoped for a new MacBook Air (2022) at the March 8 “Peek Performance” event. Apple is reportedly testing nine new Mac models with brand-new M2 silicon chips, including a new MacBook Air in a rainbow of hues. No small task: Since its introduction in November 2020, the MacBook Air (M1, 2020) has topped both our best laptop and best Apple laptop lists (M1, 2020). Even if Apple doesn’t make any changes, the MacBook Air 2022 will likely preserve its silent, fanless design and extended battery life. With the 2022 model, we expect certain upgrades, especially in the Air design. Rumors abound of a total overhaul with a myriad of colors to choose from, similar to the 2021 iMac and 4th generation iPad Air.
MacBook Air RELEASE DATE AND PRICE
We were expecting Apple might reveal anything during its Peak Performance event on March 8, but it slipped by without a statement, leaving the expected release date in doubt. With so many rumors swirling about, it’s possible we’ll hear it by the end of the year. It’s hard to tell whether the new MacBook Air will use the same M1 SoC as the initial wave of Apple hardware, whether it will use one of the new chips introduced with the new MacBook Pros, or if it will use an entirely new Apple M2 chip.
Given that the two most recent MacBook Pro models (M1 Pro and M1 Max) use beefed-up versions of the M1 CPU, it’s unlikely that the 2022 MacBook Air will use the same ultra-powerful Soc, making an M2 processor debut more likely. The pricing hasn’t been confirmed yet, but we expect the new MacBook Air to start at $999/£999, like the current model.
MacBook Air Design
What’s more, there have been enough leaks and conjecture about the new MacBook Air’s design to make the wait worthwhile. We predicted in April that the MacBook Air will get a colorful makeover after the Spring Loaded event when the new models were inspired by some vintage, colorful Mac designs. John Prosser, a frequent Apple leaker, stated the MacBook Air (2021) would come in the same seven colors as the iMac (2021). Blue, Green, Pink, Silver, Yellow, Orange, Purple
Prosser’s renders show upcoming MacBook Air notebooks with white keycaps, larger function keys, and a smaller trackpad. Instead of the conventional sloped edges, the chassis adopts a highly modern, blunt edge. According to these rumors, the upcoming revamp will be the smallest and lightest MacBook Air yet. With the return of MagSafe charging on the two new MacBook Pros, we expect the 2022 MacBook Air to have a Mini-LED display.
MacBook Air Specs
The current MacBook Air (2020) comes with Apple’s M1 SoC, which combines CPU, GPU, and other components into an 8-core processor capable of astonishing performance. The 2020 model is 3.5 times quicker on the CPU and 5 times faster on the GPU than the Intel-powered model it replaces. a new M2 chip could bring? Aside from the CPU, Apple is anticipated to preserve much of the current model’s specs. After all, this is a ‘cheap’ laptop, so any power gain could increase the price and hurt the MacBook Pro.
This implies 8GB or 16GB RAM, 256GB or 512GB SSD, and familiar features like Magic Keyboard and Touch ID. We expect reduced bezels, a 13-inch display (current standard), and a better 1080p webcam. Given how bad the current 720p webcam performance is, we’d be astonished if this wasn’t expanded across the entire spectrum of MacBook models. Given that the latest iMacs and MacBook Pros all have 1080p webcams, this feature may return. While the number of ports on the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro (2021) increased, the number of ports on the MacBook Air (2021) may not have increased.
