Louisiana state police confirm the deaths of 2 policemen in a helicopter crash
Two Baton Rouge police officers were killed Sunday when a police aircraft from Baton Rouge crashed in West Baton Rouge Parish.
The Baton Rouge Police Department has claimed that various law enforcement agencies and other organisations with jurisdiction over aviation and airspace traffic are looking into the event.
A cane field on North Winterville Road, not far from U.S. Highway 190, is where the BRPD helicopter reportedly crashed, according to authorities.
Flight records show that at 2:26 AM, the helicopter took off from Baton Rouge Metro Airport bound for the Omni Airport, with an expected arrival time of 3:38 AM. After the pilots failed to return home, the helicopter was located about 11:30 a.m., according to WBRZ, an ABC affiliate in the area.
According to WBRZ’s sources, the collision happened when the helicopter was chasing a car that had evaded police.
A statement was issued by the Baton Rouge Police Department said, “The entire BRPD family extends our deepest sympathy to the families, friends and all those touched by these officers’ lives and service,”.
