Liam Hemsworth has auditioned for Witcher before Henry Cavill
The Witcher will undergo significant revisions. Season 3 has already been shot and will debut on Netflix in 2023, but it will be Henry Cavill’s last time portraying Geralt of Rivia. When Netflix announced the renewal of The Witcher for a fourth season last week, they also revealed that Cavill would no longer be a part of the show. Many viewers are upset that Liam Hemsworth will be taking over the role of Geralt in Season 4 instead of Henry Cavill.
If fans enjoy Cavill’s final season, the plan is for Hemsworth to take over as Geralt in the following season. However, it appears that after Cavill’s departure, no recent attempts were made to recruit Hemsworth for the role. Redanian Intelligence has released a new report claiming that before Cavill was cast, Hemsworth had auditioned for the role in 2018. According to the report, he was a frontrunner for the role until Henry Cavill’s casting sealed the deal. Having already held auditions, this made it easier for the show’s producers to find a new Geralt.
Hemsworth said on Instagram after his casting was announced, “As a Witcher fan I’m over the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia. “Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I’m honoured that he’s handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf’s blades for the next chapter of his adventure. Henry, I’ve been a fan of yours for years and was inspired by what you brought to this beloved character.”
Hemsworth said, “I may have some big boots to fill, but I’m truly excited to be stepping into The Witcher world,” indicating that he was aware of the difficulty of winning over fans as the new Geralt.
