Las Vegas valley was hit by strong winds and lightning many still without electricity
Thunderstorms and lightning struck the Las Vegas valley on Wednesday night, knocking out electricity to tens of thousands of people and tossing around office furniture.
For central Clark County, the National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning through 8:30 p.m., which includes the cities of Las Vegas, Henderson, Summerlin, North Las Vegas, and Boulder City.
Gusts of 60 mph wind are among the dangers. Stay away from windows and get to the lowest level of a building, as advised by the National Weather Service (NWS).
Until 9 p.m., a secondary thunderstorm warning was in effect for areas of Clark and Mohave counties in the northeastern region of the state. Las Vegas Bay and Lake Mead are all under this warning’s umbrella, including much of northeastern Las Vegas.
A total of 10,000 customers are without power in the valley as of 9:20 p.m., according to NV Energy.
In most situations, outages are reported as having an unknown cause with an estimated restoration time of between late Wednesday night and early Thursday morning.
