LAPD investigates Tory Lanez after Alsina assault claim
LADA is investigating TTory Lanez for allegedly assaulting August Alsina after a concert in Chicago over the weekend.
Alsina uploaded an Instagram photo of himself with blood gushing from his mouth on Sunday. Alsina claims Lanez violently assaulted him after a gig on Saturday night.
The LADA is examining allegations that the defendant attacked August Alsina. “The allegations are serious and will be thoroughly examined.”
Lanez, real name Daystar Peterson, is out on bail after being charged with shooting Megan Thee Stallion in July 2020. The rapper also faces a firearms charge.
A video posted to Twitter on Monday purporting to film the alleged assault shows Alsina rejecting Lanez’s handshake backstage. In the final half of the video, Lanez celebrates as an off-camera individual says Lanez “knocked him out.”
The Chicago Police Department received a report of a 30-year-old man being punched in the face by another 30-year-old man on Saturday at 11:30 p.m. Citing Chicago P.D. policy, they will not confirm the men’s identities. Lanez and Alsina were scheduled to appear at Rip Michaels’ Fall Back in Love Comedy & Music Jam at the Arie Crown Theater on Saturday.
In an interview with podcaster Akademics on Sunday, Lanez denied insulting Alsina. “Nothing happened. I don’t even know what this kid is talking about, brother, Lanez said, “No, hell no! I don’t know if he’s doing [this for] promo. I don’t know what that n—- is talking about, bruh.”
Lanez has been in legal trouble since the July 2020 shooting. In August 2021, the rapper’s bond was upgraded from $190,000 to $250,000 after he made a surprise appearance at the Rolling Loud Miami Festival on July 25 immediately after Stallion left the stage, breaking a protective order requiring him to stay at least 100 yards away from the “Savage” hitmaker. In April, a judge upped his bond to $350,000 because some of his social media posts violated court instructions to avoid Stallion.
Lanez awaits trial. He faces 22 years in prison if convicted.
