Kim Kardashian has claimed that people didn’t even know who Marilyn Monroe was before she wore her dress to the Met Gala
Before she donned her dress for the Met Gala, Kim Kardashian claims that some social media users didn’t even know who Marilyn Monroe was. In the same gown that Marilyn Monroe wore when she sang “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” to John F. Kennedy in 1962, Kardashian made news last month when she showed up at the Met Gala. From Ripley’s Believe It Or Not Museum, she took out the dress. Kim faced criticism for being undeserving of donning the legendary outfit even after stating that she lost 16 pounds in three weeks to fit into the dress.
When it appeared in a videotape that someone had actually crushed her butt into the dress and it was later shown that the dress had been harmed, she came under greater fire. Kim now claims on “Today” that she found some social media users didn’t know who Marilyn Monroe was before she wore the icon’s gown. She said, “That was the most shocking thing to me and that’s why I was so happy to at least have that opportunity and that Ripley’s gave me the opportunity to share this moment so that it could live on.”
“I respect her and I understand how much this dress means to American history. With the theme being American, I thought what is more American than Marilyn Monroe singing ‘Happy Birthday’ to the president of the United States,” Kim added. She went on to explain, “It was such a process. I showed up on the red carpet in a robe and slippers. I put the dress on the bottom of the carpet, went up the stairs, I probably had it on for four minutes and then I changed right at the top of the stairs.”
Many users of social media are still upset that Kim Kardashian is sporting the legendary gown of Marilyn Monroe.
